The Doom of Valyria was a cataclysm that shattered the Valyrian Freehold, ending its five-thousand-year reign. Occurring in 102 BC, nearly a century before Aegon's Conquest, this disaster obliterated spells, knowledge, and history.
Twelve years before the Doom, Daenys the Dreamer, daughter of Lord Aenar Targaryen, foresaw the catastrophe in a prophetic vision. She convinced her father to relocate House Targaryen and their dragons to Dragonstone, escaping the impending destruction.
On the day of the Doom, massive explosions and fiery eruptions devastated Valyria. Earthquakes and boiling lakes obliterated towns and palaces, while the Fourteen Flames spewed molten rock and dragonglass. The Valyrian peninsula fractured into islands, and a tsunami annihilated Velos and Ghozai.
The cause remains debated: a natural eruption, failed Valyrian spells, the curse of Garin the Great, the fire of R'hllor, or infighting among dragonlords.
