In the Third Age, year 2510, Gondor faced a dire threat from the Balchoth, fierce Easterlings who had already overrun Wilderland and crossed into Calenardhon. Gondor, struggling with depleted forces, sent the Red Arrow north to the Éothéod for aid, though they had little hope of a response.
The North Army, led by Steward Cirion, faced the Balchoth at the Wold but was soon surrounded and driven back, trapped against the river. An Orc band from the Misty Mountains then joined the assault, leaving the Dúnedain in a desperate position.
At this critical moment, Eorl the Young and the Éothéod arrived, crossing the Anduin at the Undeeps. Charging into the Balchoth’s rear, they shattered their forces, rescuing Gondor’s armies. Eorl’s forces pursued and destroyed the remaining Balchoth in Calenardhon, securing a monumental victory for Gondor and forging an unbreakable bond between the Éothéod and their southern allies.
