Top SUVs for 2022

Top SUVs for 2022

Believe us when we say that there is an SUV for everybody. Our top choices are listed here.

Sport utility vehicles with a hefty body-on-frame are a thing of the past. Today's SUVs are far more useful for everyday use because they are typically constructed utilizing the same unibody construction used on sedans and hatchbacks. You won't have any trouble getting an SUV that is as big or as tiny as you need it to be because the best SUVs are also encroaching on every auto-market category known to man.

But with so many options, it becomes necessary to sort through them all. We can help in this situation. We've put together a list of our favorite SUVs for 2022, whether you're looking for a vehicle for serious off-roading or a small SUV for a growing family. Additionally, those of you who are cutting-edge need not worry because we have a balanced mix of gas-powered and electrified SUVs for you to consider.

Volkswagen Taos

The top subcompact SUV 2022

Better late than never! The Volkswagen Taos wasn't the first little SUV to appear, but now that it's here and we've had a chance to get to know it, we can say with certainty that it's a charming little thing.

What we enjoy about larger VW SUVs is combined with city-friendly features in the 2022 VW Taos. Both the inside and the outside are gorgeous. Not all small SUVs can be said to feel well-built, but this one does. The inside is not just attractive but also seems positively vast. With either front- or all-wheel drive, the 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 produces a respectable 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.

Hyundai Venue 2022

The runner-up for best subcompact SUV

The Hyundai Venue, which is essentially the tiny house of current SUVs on sale, will undoubtedly be a hit with people who are on the tiny-housing bandwagon.

Despite its little size, the 2022 Hyundai Venue offers a lot of value. This little guy feels rather quick thanks to its 1.6-liter inline-121 four's horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque, and the standard continuously variable transmission keeps things smooth. The EPA predicts that it can get up to 30 miles per gallon in the city and 33 mpg on the interstate.

The Venue places a high value on style, whether it be in the funky-fresh outside or the practical yet intriguing inside. If you want to invest a little more money, the Denim trim relies on a surprisingly cool blue interior design theme. An 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with safety features like automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, put technology front and center here as well.

Ford Bronco Sport 2022

The top compact SUV

In two different iterations, the Ford Bronco is back. The big-boy Bronco that most closely resembles the vintage design may be found elsewhere on our list, but the Bronco Sport, the so-called "baby Bronco," that came before it, is a great little SUV in its own right.

An amazing little SUV, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport does a respectable job off-roading even with front and rear completely independent suspension. And if you give this SUV its more powerful engine—a 2.0-liter turbo I4 with 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque—it can move like the dickens. Although it seems like a lifetime has passed since Ford first revealed this vehicle, we are happy that it is finally here.

Mazda CX-30 2022

The second-best compact SUV

The sleek CX-30 from Mazda is a newcomer to the small SUV market but improves on Mazda's previous SUV prowess if you're looking for something a little bigger than the Taos or the Venue.

The CX-30's roofline resembles that of a coupe, giving this little SUV a lot of personality. The interior, where higher trims feel positively posh, with soft contact points and an unexpected amount of soft leather illustrates the quasi-luxurious approach. Along with a straightforward layout that minimizes distractions, it makes for a really comfortable commute.

An 8.8-inch infotainment screen and a plethora of safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance, are included as standard equipment. A 2.5-liter I4 engine under the hood generates a respectable 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional for a little extra money. The efficiency ratings for the FWD vehicles are 33 mpg highway and 25 mpg city.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022

The top midsize SUV

The previous version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was consistently good, combining comfort and capability in a right-size body, despite lasting for what felt like an eternity. Therefore, it makes sense that its successor would build on all of the positive aspects and follow the same path.

With the range of trims Jeep offers, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets some stunning new looks. But that's just the cherry on top; the fifth generation of the GC has so many other fantastic improvements, like a plethora of inside screens, one of which is for the passenger. There is also an Amazon FireTV connection available for portable family-friendly streaming. It can cross 24 inches of water when in its off-road-ready Trailhawk configuration, and its approach, departure, and breakover angles are comparable to those of the strongest Toyota 4Runners available. You can choose from V6 and V8 versions if you don't want to use a lot of gas.
