Sauron, once a powerful Maia and Morgoth's most devious servant, became the Dark Lord after his master’s defeat. Known as the forger of the One Ring, Sauron used cunning and manipulation to conquer Middle-earth. After Morgoth's fall, Sauron disguised himself as "Annatar," the Lord of Gifts, appearing fair and benevolent to deceive the Elves into forging the Rings of Power. However, after orchestrating the downfall of Númenor, he could no longer take a fair form and was forever bound to his dark and terrifying visage. Sauron was eventually defeated by the Last Alliance of Elves and Men when Isildur cut the One Ring from his hand, shattering his physical form. Though weakened, Sauron lay dormant for centuries, slowly regaining his strength. He returned later in the Third Age to dominate Middle-earth once more, but his reign finally ended when the One Ring was destroyed in Mount Doom, sealing his ultimate defeat.
